Should Sports Betting be Taxable?

If someone would have told me that the Chicago Cubs would have been in the playoff and had good odds at being in the World Series, I would have taken the bet and thought them a fool. However, if you have been keeping up lately the Cubbies are not only winning their division but some would even argue they are the best team out there right now.

Ever think about putting a bet down on your favorite sports team, if you have there are hundreds of online betting sites where you can do so. Internet gambling is still a legal gray area that some members of congress want to tax. In December 2007 Rep Barney Frank introduced a bill to legalize gambling and Rep James McDermott wanted to tax the profits. The amount of money the U.S Government would make from internet gambling is staggering. It would not cover our national debt but it could defiantly help fund social security. Now that would be interesting funding retirement with gambling but then again don’t we already gamble in the stock market.

It makes me sad that we can't have the freedom to gamble online!
